Re: gearbox oil change
I cheated and had mine done by the garage next to my work in the end, but I had this stuff put in: http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xPr ... &xSec=2840
Re: gearbox oil change
Personally I use normal EP90 as would have been specified from new.
The only tip I have is, make sure you can get the filler plug undone before you undo the drain plug and let all the old stuff out.

And remember to make sure the car is level
Re: gearbox oil change
It can be worth sitting the bottle of oil in a bucket of hot water for a while first to help it flow more freely.

Re: gearbox oil change
Have you got a proper sump plug socket that you can use with a socket ? - It's so much easier than with a universal key and will probably save your knuckles if there's a bit of corrosion holding the plugs in place

It's been so long since I got one of those I'd quite forgotten that it's needed. I bought the allen key version years ago, but sawed an inch off the long bit to keep in with the socket set - easier to use with a ratchet. I guess you can also cobble something up with a 17mm bolt/nut if you've bits of an old VW to pull apart.

Re: gearbox oil change
All done ! No problems my neighbour helped and he had a Sump plug socket so that made things easier. The old oil looked like it was due for a change...
