Heater channels.

Post by kaddy » 27th April 2015 - 7:38pm

Ive just been offered a set of karmman ghia heater channels.

Would they be suitable for the fasty , and will they need any modification. Or
am I better off making my own as I intended to do originally. Thanks

If you mean the inner heater channel box section from a type 34 KG then from photos I have seen of a Type 3 sill structure they are significantly different. If you mean the complete sill assembly from the type 14 KG, then again completely different.

Why not post an image of what you are trying to fix, sure there will be plenty of helpful advice on here.

I was offered a set of KG heater channels, and wanted to find out how much modification was needed.

From the information I,ve managed to find, I,d say I,m better off sticking to my original idea,
of making up my own sections.

I,m well into my resto now, but loads and loads more to go :)

Someone on here has fabricated them for their project - details should be somewhere on the forum, but the search engine often seems reluctant to find what you want!

I started my own fabricating of my heater channels. But when the KG channels
came up I just did a bit of looking for the info on them. But I think I,ll carry on with my own ones.

I,m using 19 guage 0.0418 inch. 1.062 mm, which as far as my research says matches original spec
for body repairs, open to correction on that. But it matches existing metal

And I,ve used galvanised 1.5mm material for heater channels, and I,ll match whatever or better for any
structural .
So far every thing seems good. I,ve used 1.2mm material for the front bulkhead re inforcement sections.

Progress is ok at the moment considering I took the body off in the first week in march 2015, so probably a
little under 3 months at the moment.

But seeing as I,m forcibly retired and have loads of time to fill, I,m smiling ;-)
