Antone got copy Gas Burners on their type 3?

Post by kinga » 13th October 2016 - 6:46pm

Hi all,

I think i've made my mind up that Gas Buners are the way to go - I am still 4x130 PCD..

Want some bling, so gonna be new ones I think.

The cheapest ones on the market are MWS with an offset of ET25.

SSP do some with ET35 but they are over £120 more a set.

I have heard people slate the quality of MWS wheels, but I have been using them for years and never had any issues whatsoever (the ones on my bus were over 8 years old & still mint, although it was garaged, which the fasty is not).

Anyhows, just wondered if anyone had copy GB's on theor type 3 & whether they had any problems with the offset, rubbing etc.

I am 68 with narrowed beam & its an auto, so IRS I assume?

It's been lowered a smidge, and the rear wheels have no camber, which is why I assume it's IRS.

Here's the car for reference & I reckon it will looks the dogs with GB's..

I would go with the ET35 if you can afford to
You will be able to fit wider than 165 on the rear and they will fit the car better - IMO.
Ideally they would be available in ET42 for a type 3...

the best fitment for the Type 3 is 914 alloys like I had on it, they fit perfectly and that's why they are so popular!

yeah - they do look good, but I just love the look of the gas burners a bit more I think?

What did you do with yours Marko - did they go with the car?

I've currently got SSP (I believe they are anyway), Gasburners, on my '71 IRS Fastback which is a bit closer to the ground than standard. I bought them second hand so not 100% sure of details. No problems so far, although when my front was lower they could scrub on full lock. I'm not sure of the offset sadly, I'd have to whizz one off and check the markings. I'm running 175 wide tyres on the back and certainly no troubles with clearance on that end, in fact I could and may well run 185's next time around.

thanks - be interested to know the et of yours - was I talking to you & your missus at VW Action?

Just worried about the width with the ET25 MWS ones - mine is IRS - looks like yours is swing axle as yours is lowered the wheels come in at the top but mine don;t so more of a clearance issue.

thanks mate = appreciate it.

Next time I've got it out I'll check one for you, might be a little while tho now. Mines definitely IRS, you can tell by the trailing arms and if the drive shafts are single or double jointed. Yes, I think we were chatting at Action :)
