I have noticed my ignition light flickers faintly as i drive along. Might be something loose or something else? Any suggestions please.
Many thanks,

Re: Ignition light.
Loose connections
Dynamo brushes may need replacing
Loose fan belt
Voltage regulator fault

Re: Ignition light.
Explanation:
The ignition light is connected across from Ignition + at the ignition switch to the blue wire from the regulator output.
With engine off and ignition on, power feeds through the light and earths through the regulator, so the lamp lights.
With engine running and generating, the regulator output will oppose the ignition voltage, so the light goes out.
A weakly lit bulb means the regulator output is a few volts different from the ignition volts, which is enough to light the bulb dimly. The dynamo or voltage regulator is the likely problem, but there may be corrosion on the wires under the dash. Be careful when poking around to under there to avoid inadvertent short-circuits.
Sometimes corrosion where the regulator is screwed to the inner sill is the problem, as it can't do its job if it's not decently earthed. Check that area, then run through charging and regulator checks as suggested by sparkywig.

Re: Ignition light.
That's brilliant, really clear.
Have decided to put him in for a service with our local air cooled specialist. He has long said the Type 3 was his favourite VW and is looking forward to taking a look.
We have a good car at the moment and I want to nudge it along the way to being great.
Look forward to seeing some of you later this year for more tips.
