Only firing on 2 cylinder till revved above 4k

Post by Bradleydeane » 16th February 2017 - 6:57pm

Hi I just bought a 1980 t3.
It will only run on 1 side on idle but when revved to about 4k the other side would kick in.
The previous owner had replaced the heads. Rebuilt the twin cards. New dizzy. New leads and plugs. Yet he had no luck.
Any ideas people? Thanks

I'd check the wire to the cut off valve on the carb, & try posting on a more general VW forum, such as Volkszone

Have a quick look in the gallery sections & You'll see that the Type 3 & 4 cars are very different to Your T3

Never mind, We're a relatively Friendly & usually harmless bunch & We'll do what We can to help, but probably lack the specific knowledge on Your Vehicle.
As I said, check the wiring to the cut off valves on each Carb & at the same time check the wire to the chokes-obviously You should have 12V at each point with ignition on. You can then check the operation of each cut off by briefly disconnecting & reconnecting each one, again with ign on- You'll hear/feel a distinct click if all is well.

I'd try posting on http://forum.club8090.co.uk/index.php

You haven't said it it's a 1600 or 2000 engine, but the hydraulic tappets can be problematic. Beware of someone doing a mix /match job with solid tappets which use different pushrods as well. I have a 1981 2 litre project - it's been looked after by a camper expert, but you wouldn't think so, so assume nothing.
