Bulkhead area in trunk

Post by gerrygerbil » 16th May 2017 - 5:31pm

Hi my 1972 square back has had its bulkhead cut open at the top , and replaced with a lid and hinges to access the air intake . Can anyone send me pics or advise on replacing this to original . its not rotten just been chopped open I think . Was thinking of leaving it but replacing with nicer frame and lid . One that was fitted was naff . Riveted on .

thanks my area around the air box and drain is solid , slight surface rust , but some one has cut open the bulkhead and fabricated a lid hinges and lock . do you think its better to leave open and make a better top or fabricate and replace to original . did find broken glass in the drain and around the fresh air grills , thanks graham

If you make a neater job of a lid, you can keep the inside area clean. You're lucky if the airbox isn't riddled with rust! Often, the rust arises when the drain is blocked - clear out the 1/2" drain tube regularly.
