Front wing Rot Repair

Post by johnnymickey » 26th June 2017 - 2:34pm

Hi, i have bought a squareback here in southern Ireland. It came from the USA in 2010. I have the bottom 20 cm of the rear of the front wings that needs replacing. I have been offered later front wings and was wondering if the rear part of later front wings were the same profile as the earlier ones wings?

Thanks.

I would imagine they are the same, but before you chop a bit off, bear in mind that a whole wing in reasonable state is likely to be worth a lot more than the cost of a repair, particularly low down where it isn't easy to inspect closely, and the lower trim strip covers much of it.
I don't have an early one to compare, so cannot be absolutely certain, but I can't think of a reason for any difference.

Be aware that there may be rust repairs needed to the lower body where the wings fits on.
Dave.

I,d be surprised if there is not more work waiting for you at the bulkhead under the wings.

Usual story for these.
