Oil pressure

Post by Aircooled Johnnyo » 2nd October 2017 - 6:08pm

Does anyone know what the correct oil pressure is for a ‘72 Fasty. Reason for asking is I have added an oil pressure gauge and when hot it seems to be below 10 psi. This seems amazingly low.
Any help is much appreciated

Cheers

Tick over speed, without a rev counter I would guess at 800 rpm.

yeah that's fine, the pressure light will come on at 5-7psi. when you curing at 60-70mph you should have over 30psi when hot.

Righto.
Thanks for your help.
I am going to check with a VW calibrated pressure gauge soon, as I’ve heard that the vdo gauges can be used as a guide rather than an accurate measurement?

to be perfectly honest I wouldn't worry. have you been having issues with your engine?

If the oil pressure light isn't coming on or flickering. and when you change the oil it isn't full of glitter, there really isn't a need to a pressure gauge. Ive built dozens of these engine and never fitted one, nor have we ever had an oil pressure issue.

Cheers. It’s just that I did a full rebuild and not done one before. Just a little paranoid I guess.

i remember my first build well. i felt much the same, but i put my faith in the pressure light. change your oil at 1000miles and it will tell you if youve done a good job :)
