Correct dipstick?

Post by TopGhia » 14th October 2017 - 9:19am

Hi,

I'm not sure I've got the correct dipstick for my Squareback. It is connected to the oil filler cap but has a ball on it which can slide up and down the stick. Should this be in a fixed position and if so where?

I just want to make sure I don't overfill the oil and cause other issues.

Cheers, Jon

The ball doesn't really affect the reading, it just ensures the dipstick is centralised in the tube.
As long as You have the spring loaded section, that's the important bit- the dipstick bottoms out in a dimple in the filler tube, at which point the spring allows the stick to shorten & the cap to close securely.

Cheers.

The spring compresses ok, just thought that the ball was supposed to be at the bottom so taking up more volume and therefore a higher reading on the dipstick.

Thanks
