Engine change
Hi all looking to do an engine change in my T3. We haven’t had the van too long and have spent over 1500 to have a starting problem and gear linkage including new gearstick rectified. It’s a 2.0 water cooled petrol with a 5 speed box. Now it’s running perfect. Should be as the engine has only done 8800 miles. Anyway the engine is not powerful enough for our requirements so as we want to keep the van we are going for an engine change. We have a large trailer 9x5 feet and triplets of 8 years old so as u can see we need a lot of stuff to pack when we go camping etc. I’m looking at something torquey maybe around 140bhp but need help in what to get. I want to try keep the price down but for the right engine etc we are open to offers plus I have the engine out of mine to trade. May have a gearbox too depending on what engine I choose. I just want some advice on what to get. What engine do you have and what problems come along with it. Any help or comments are welcome. I just need advice. Thank you
Re: Engine change
I think you may be on the wrong forum, this is for Type 3 & 4 cars. You probably want a T25 forum.
You'll probably be better off having a Golf Tdi engine/gearbox conversion done, although this may be in the region of £6k.
And then allow some more for uprating the brakes.
I did drive all round Europe in a 1959 bus with a stock 1200 engine, which with a top/cruising speed of 55mph was quite a pleasant experience.

Re: Engine change
Yep, you should head over to club80-90
There isn't a 2.0 litre petrol watercooled engine for the T25, at least not as standard. You probably have a 1.9 litre DG engine which has 78hp. Easiest option will be to get a 2.1 litre DJ engine, 112 hp as standard. Don't forget, you are lugging a lot of weight around so torque will be more important than peak power.
