Wipers and horn

Post by Zippster » 19th December 2017 - 7:47am

Does anybody have an idea where to start. My wipers don’t work more does my horn. Are they linked together. That was working fine. It been sat when to use them other day and nothing. I’m new to the car. Only had beetles before it’s an early 72 squareback

It basically the same as a beetle so if you knew what you were doing with one of them, youll be fine with this. If it has been sat then my number one thought is corrosion on earth terminals or uses, take each fuse out and with some scotch bright clean both ends of it and the terminals in the holder. (disconnect the battery first just in case) If that doesn't help under the dash in the back of the speedo area is a cluster of spade terminals which will have 5 or 6 brown wires connected to it, pull them all off in turn and clean both ends of the connection. And finally for the horn, have you check the earth strap on the steering doughnut? If thats broken the horn wont be able to earth when the button is pressed and so wont work.
