Gearbox mounting
Hello all I am trying to find out if anyone can help me locate a rear gearbox mounting for my type 3. I am new to this forum and don't really know how it all works but it appears it is for an auto even tho it's a manual? If anyone can help please contact me on this number or on here thanks 07760216719.

Here is a link to the transmission section of the parts manual. which page and item is it you require? it will help us figure out what you need.

What year is the car?
Makes a big difference to how the gearbox is mounted.

Rear mounting? Do you mean front, (towards the front of the car) or is it a swing-axle?
The front mountings are different for auto and manual. The auto ones are hen's teeth items!

Re: Gearbox mounting
Sorry yes that would be the front mounting . The year is August 72 and I do have pics but I don't know how to put them on here yet lol. The best way to describe it is that it is ally cast on the axle side with two tubes to space the mount from the axle it has two studs that go through them tubes with 17mm nuts on them to bolt it in place if that make sense?

So is your car auto or manual?
Re: Gearbox mounting
I sounds like a manual to me, have a look at my thread here.

Re: Gearbox mounting
Hello broady 6. that's the baby and that was the problem I was trying not to have. so other than that mount you got is their any others like the original one or is it second hand or modify? Just don't want to stuff up my workshop with more of my own stuff lol. And sorry all it is a manual.
Re: Gearbox mounting
No replacements available as far as I know, the usual suppliers are still setting the same bit as I fitted and you will have to modify it.
There is a firm called butser rubber which will make you new ones. but it will be pricey! Maybe get a batch of 10 or so done and sell them to recover your costs?

Re: Gearbox mounting
I've probably got a decent one here, and I might even be able to locate it.
The problem is folk unbolt the engine from the cross arm towards the back without supporting the gearbox, and let it hang, which splits away the rubber bonding.

VW Heritage list the original part number, but thats where the similarity ends.
Ask me how I know, and how broady found out years before me.
