T3/Air Cooled Mechanic Cambridgeshire Area?
Does anyone know of a decent mechanic familiar with T3 engines in the Peterborough/Cambridgeshire area?
I have a '65 T3 which is running like a pig. I suspect the carbs are worn as they are 'spitting'. Also on the left side of the engine the carb to cylinder head inlet pipe and the vacuum balancing pipe are both getting a white mist like substance on them, I suspect its petrol vapour so I do not want to be driving it very far (if at all) to get it looked at. Thanks.

T2D would be the obvious people (used to be Type 3 detectives)https://type2detectives.com/pages/contact

Thanks Peter, I've used them before but looking for someone else this time.

If its just the carbs is it worth just removing them and having them overhauled? I expect that's all a garage will end up doing if that is the issue.
At least that way youll have them sorted and safe, giving you the option to drive further away if you decide it still wants more attention

I agree they probably need a rebuild but I have some other issues on the car as well which I wont bore you with but need sorting out. Also I'd like to find a reliable garage not too far away for any future needs. In the meantime do you know of a good carb reconditioning place? Thanks

Cant help you in that neck of the woods unfortunately. But regards the carbs, this is posted in the service section. I don't know if its still current.

I have never used them so I don't know the standard of work. I tend to do my own.

Gasure did My carbs for the previous owner, but they say they no longer do a mail order service & they're in Chester
Might be worth asking them though

RNJ motorsport, a VW head. Worked on all my fathers competition VW's and prepares some amazing machinery. He is in Towcester, Northants so not too far from your area. I'm Cambridge based and when I finally get my type 3 I'll be taking my car to him. https://www.facebook.com/RNJ-Motorsport ... &pnref=lhc

I think I saw an advert for a company called Rustworks (P'boro or Yaxley) in Hayburner Magazine..
