distributor install

Post by greenfyregirl » 1st March 2018 - 1:33pm

Hello

we are getting to the end of the engine rebuild and i have turned the engine to be firing on cylinder1- the 009 distributor rotor arm is close, but not pointing to the notch on the dissy. is this because we put the dissy drive in according to john muirs diagram for type 3 engines(at a different angle to type1/2s?) or another reason..

Thanks
Clare

You'll need to reset the timing clare so just loosen the clamp & turn the body

Yes, You'll need to set up the static timing in order for the bugger to start

If the engine is definitely at TDC on no. 1 cylinder, loosen the clamp and turn the distributor so that the rotor arm lines up with the notch in the distributor body.
009 distributors can be 180 degrees out from vac advance ones, so make sure you fit the plug leads to the new distributor in the right order, starting from the new number 1 cylinder position on the cap.
You'll need to reset the timing with a timing light once you've got it running.

They can also be 90 degrees out just to help muddy the water, but as has been said always have the engine at TDC on number 1 with the rotor arm pointing the notch in the body.

And if it was me id be taking the 009 and throwing it away, then fitting a nice SVDA for better economy and smoother running :D

I was wondering when that would come up, best get the engine running before replacing the 009 ....... unless of course the original dizzy is still available
