Do you have any details on your conversion? I might look at doing this over the next winter. :D

You can do it with a beetle one. I'll show you some photos later.

Theres nothing wrong with a dynamo. But if you start running higher power audio equipment and other electrical stuff, the drain on the battery is greater than the dynamo can replace

Better photos on order, I saw how he did it. The reward section is the same diameter as a dynamo. So it fits nicely and keep the armature and pulley on the same axis. Thus a type 3 belt will still fit. He then clearanced the housing and modified a beetle dyanmo clamp.

Oh, that's not how I thought it was going to be fitted.
On TheSamba.com there's a thread about alternator conversions and someone posted this.

Thanks guys, that'll keep me busy over winter.

Now that the cars alive now, 2020 show season becons and my audio install is on the list to do, alternator is a must (even if I've got 2 batteries and a split charge system).

I'll update my build thread when I do it. :D

I did it! was quite easy and cheap to do.. just need to adapt a strap and grind a bit of the case way for it to sit straight in.

Hey Mark, do you have any more details on the alternator itself; model number? Also any pics of how it's installed, any special metal work needed for brackets? How much did you need to remove from the fan housing? Just weighing up my options (and cost).
Cheers :) :) :)

@ Broady. That's the beetle set up i guess? That's too much metal work and removal for me. I might just opt for this

Yeah thats a type 1/2 alternator.

If youre planning go that route, it can be done much cheaper, thats generic universal alternator. Ive used it on a few things. Ill get the details off the box tomorrow. But a quick googles brought uo this
