steering wheel catching on indicator stalk

Post by Lee Scott » 29th April 2018 - 6:02pm

Why is this happening. It's from a type 1 but it's the correct wheel for the car. Or is there a subtle difference somewhere I'm missing?

Ok, so it seem that the car originally came with a plastic large wheel as the indicator stalks and wiper stalks are on the column. This is blocking the wheel from turning with the old style d-ring steering wheel. My option appears to be plastic ugly wheel or aftermarket wheel. That is very disappointing.

It looks like it was modded during the other mods. I believe it was so he didn't have the wiper switch on the dash. If I go back I'll have to remount the wiper switch on the dash. I don't fancy that to be honest.

i hear you.
it was a loaded question tbh - I have a complete steering column from my early 70 car that was fitted with a D ring wheel
If and when let me know and am sure we could figure something sensible if you wanted to go that route...

I assume this wasnt done well then? the later type 3s had wipers on the stalk and it wasnt a bit job to put the late parts on an early car with out issue.
