Re-Fitting glass with new seals.
Re-Fitting glass with new seals.
Finally re assembling.
I,d welcome advice from anyone thats done this already.
Whats the best method of re fitting the glass with new seals, into nice clean opes,
and keeping out the water.
I know some chaps use a silicon sealant when fitting the new seal. Is it a necessary
step, I,m assuming the seal properly fitted would suffice without any additional gloop.
And whats the recommended lubricant for the fitting, that wont perish the rubber.
Any and all advice welcome.
Thanks,
Tim.

Seal onto Glass, then trim into seal (but not the joining piece) Then glass/seal/Trim into Body aperture.
You shouldn't need any lubricant, just a hefty mate if poss & a nice warm day
Where did You get the seal? if it's one of Simons You shouldn't have any problems
Joining piece gets inserted last.

Yep Simons seals. The procedure is what I,m familiar with.
And no sealent is what I,m thinking. Do I need any method of lubrication for the seals?
Thanks

Silicone spray, how safe is that with the seal. I know washing up liquid is fairly corrosive
to rubber long term.

I really wouldn't use anything- it's not just the seal You've got to worry about, but the paint as well

Wont cause you any bother with paint. and if you apply it carefully then you wont get it on the paint

It will be a day or two before I tackle them, so I'll keep you posted.
And finally, whats the best adhesive for gluing down any loose fabric/material
around the edges of the opes. Thanks gents.

Re: Re-Fitting glass with new seals.
Evo-Stik impact - Either aerosol or in a tube- Aerosol is easiest.
Look out for the Blue packaging, which is repositionable but not sure it's available in an aerosol.
The normal stuff is Red packaging

I thought Evo Stik might be the poison of choice alright.
Not sure there is any other impact adhesive that has stood the test of time.
Its been around longer than me fasty

Re: Re-Fitting glass with new seals.
I have had a slight issue with water ingress under the seals on the rear side glass, as the new seals are slightly smaller than original.
If yours weeps, use a good flexible sealer from a ship's chandlers as they use capillary action to find the gaps.

Re: Re-Fitting glass with new seals.
The Type 3 body manual actually talks about a sealant being used, but with clean openings and new rubber, it isn't strictly needed. There are solutions that track into small spaces if you find it's leaking.
Liquid soap is another possible lubricant, but certainly avoid washing-up liquid which is bulked up with salt (I hear).
