Which thermostat

Post by Jamesq123 » 28th May 2018 - 8:54pm

I want to freshen up my cooling on my 72 fastback. I've been looking at thermostatsbut some state they are for an upright engine. Which is the right thermostat and fan and belt etc for our type 3 engines?

take yours off and test it. Nowts as good as the old ones. It will state on it its operating temp. Put it in a pan of water and slowly raise the temperature with a thermometer in the pan and see how it performs.

If the flaps arent opening properly try lubricating the linkage. It always get over looked.

There is no fan belt on a type 3 engine, its driven directly from the crank shaft. The belt drives the dynamo.

The belt is 10x1000mm and all the usual places, Coolair, custom and comercial, VWH should supply it.

As above really, Ive bought them from VWH, ebay, C and C and they have all functioned as they should. If you are unsure its worth ringing the supplier. Theyre all friendly helpful folk

Don't test the thermostat without the bracket, if it expands too far it will rupture.
