Vw Type 3 Performance brakes

Post by Park83 » 10th August 2018 - 6:38pm

Hi Guys,

Another one for you.

I want to upgrade my front brakes to a performance set of drilled discs and calipers. The only thing is I would like to keep 4 stud and not move to 5. So far any upgrade I have come across is for 5 stud.

Can anyone help please?

I think that's your lot, the only way to cure it is to run a set of adapters on the wheel to convert back to 4 stud

what sort of size discs are you looking for vented discs are better than drilled.
does it matter if your wheels a moved out about 5/8mm

TAROX made a nice 6 piston front caliper and disc set for 4 stud cars

Depends what you want, vented and drilled do two different things. Vented rotors are for cooling, drilled rotors at to take the face off the pad when it gets glazed as well as reducing the rotor mass

Look at my thread if you want some 5 stud ideas.

For 4 stud you could looks at the transport t25 world and modify you front disc into a hub and slide a blank/redrilled disc over it.

they are t3 transporters not t25 lol
that's why i asked about the width i machine down the disc or hub and slip a disc over the top.
on the rear of my t3 for instance the drums are replaced with 290 odd mm vented discs sourced from gm and ford cosworth calipers. i then machine down the hubs and make up the mounting brackets.
another starting point maybe mexican beetle hubs as the fronts are 2 piece or even mk2/mk3 rear i know the bearings are the same not sure if hubs same epytec.de do lots of options

Hi Guys, TAROX couldn't help...

I am looking for vented, grove and drilled discs, I will be rolling on 16 inch alloys. I want to get a full brake kit if possible but on the 4 stud? I do not think it will matter of the wheel moves out 5 to 8mm.

have you looked at kerscher
https://www.kerscher-tuning.de/index.php

if you want a bolt on 4x130 kit they are the only ones i can think of they do spaced standard calipers or 4 pot kit as the discs are custom they dont as far as i know widen the track which is nice.

I'm running CSP vented (slotted) discs with Mk1 golf GTI calipers - these bolt straight onto late model stub axles.

I did originally run Audi coupe calipers (54mm bore) but could easily lock up the front end so the GTI (48mm) much better).

Remember the weight of the car is rear biased so over braking the front is not going to work.

Have plenty of photos but forgot how to post 'em here :P

A good setup, used in conjunction with a Porsche 944 m/c works well.

Oh, on the rear my own disc conversion using old Merc discs on type 3 hubs and Mk4 golf GTI calipers and custom brackets.

all in all lighter than cast iron porker calipers :)
