oil cooler replacement
Hello
Im slowly putting my engine back together and have got to the oil cooler.....Ive got three questions!!
My haynes manual says to remember the spacer plate- where applicable- what does one look like?
Do i need foam all round the cooler?
and should it be the thick or thinner seals??!

The spacers are just three thick washers.
Item 8
Yes you need the foam, its to force the cooling air to go through the cooler.
Use the seals which are the same diameter as your oil ports. I would expect 10mm. Usually the thick ones as the the thin ones are too thin to seal up

Yeah metal washers, ive got a set in the garage. ill go measure the thickness shortly for you. The foam is just on top. Im not sure what that bit of tin does, but VW wouldnt have put it there just for the hell of it. Though im sure plenty of cars are running without it these days
