More power from an FI type3

Post by packers1712 » 16th August 2018 - 10:38pm

Good evening everyone,

I am probably going to take my engine out at the end of the year to do some oil leak fixing and gearbox repairs and am also considering some engine improvements. I would like to retain the FI and reliese I will probably need to go for a larger fuel injector and can I go for 1641cc and a mild cam to get a slight power increase?
Does anyone have any experience with tuning FI or pointers for what products to use regards barrels, pistons ,capacity increase camshafts etc?
Look forward to reading your replies, thanks in advance, Doug.

TheSamba.com has a lot of info regarding tuning the FI engine.
Changing the cam will ruin the FI timing - avoid.
If youre looking for a mild improvement - rebuld the motor standard, fit a tuned exhaust and have the cylinder heads ported for better flow - that will make the car run well on the stock injectors.
If yo have a well running FI engine - most people will recommend you leave it be - they are a great engine stock...

Ok thanks for that all I’m trying to achieve is when we are 4 up with 4 people’s luggage it struggles to keep up with the flow of traffic but this isn’t a regular situation so perhaps I’ll stick with stock as it runs really well at the moment I just need to sort some oil leaks!

Maybe just spoilt it to some new plugs fresh oil, adjust the valve and ignition timing and stop those leaks.
Notchback with factory Fi is v cool - enjoy...

I guess when you refer to adjusting the valve timing you mean valve clearances do you?
