Chassis notch?

Post by Jamesq123 » 25th August 2018 - 9:17am

Hi guys I've lowered my fast back 2 splines at the back and the drive shafts seems to hit the body on rough bumps etc... Anyone else experiences this and how did u combat it? I know some will say raise it... But for those who didn't did u do a chassis notch or is there another way?

I don't think it will be hitting the body. The subframe is between the drive shaft and the body. Though I didn't know the drive shaft would reach that far installed either. Have you checked for whiteness marks?

Have you removed the bumpstops?
Are the shocks bottoming out?

No the bumpstops havnt been removed.. that I was awere anyway....
I didn't think of the shocks...there newly fitted standard kgb shocks...they could be bottoming out? What would be the cure for that?

On the drive shaft subject that was just a guess as my watercooled vws always suffered from driveshafts hitting the body so was going with that.

Check the bumpstops first.
Then if it's still happening get shorter shocks.

Did it work? Otherwise check if tbe springplates are reaching the end of their travel, you may need notched ones?

Don't notch springplates it weakens them, just get some adjustable ones from Transporterhaus.
I've got these 2" springplates ready to fit (along with a vast number of other parts.....).

If yours is IRS then you'll need these.
