Front body mounting bushes.

Post by kaddy » 13th December 2018 - 1:59pm

I,m hoping to get the body back on before christmas. Thats the plan anyway.

But I could do with fitting new front rubbers, back ones are perfect. But I
know its doubtful I,ll get them posted to me before the Xmas rush.

So, is it easy enough to fit the fronts at a later date, I believe it would be,
but I,d like a few expert opinions from those that have done it......or not,
whatever the case may be.

Thanks
Tim

The ones which fit with the front beam clamp? They are very hard to get in the gap between the fuel tank rail and the clamp once the body is mounted down, there is a good 5mm compression in the bush. If I were you id pay a little extra for next day delivery and fit new ones now. The effort you will put in at a later date is far greater than the £5 extra you'd spend now.

Are you saying you arent sure what "The front body mounting rubbers , at the top of the clamps." are?

Or that you are talking about them? They are what I am talking about.

Post wise, really? I can post things guaranteed next day to the USA from here. I appreciate it costs about £75 but I was expecting around £30 to Ireland!

In reality 1Day guaranteed does not happen here. Any Uk parcel i ever had
sat In customs in Dublin for 2-3 days.
And this time of year, its going to be pointless expecting it before Xmas.
I,ve had plenty experience of it.

The rubbers I am talking about, are the 2 circular rubbers with the sleeve
and the single bolt.
Not the beam clamp rubbers.
I assume these can be fitted with the body on the floor pan.

I have sent a few to the USA and have been pretty good. One was 48 hours. I complained and got the shipping money back. I would say its well worth ago.

Yes were are both talking about the same part then, one of the circular rubbers mounts between the flange on the beam clamp and the body, it get very compressed, you may be able to do that at a later date by removing or loosening the beam clamp enough to get it in there.

It sits on top of item 15, almost exactly where the line points too.

Problem sorted, as its the top rubber which is in good shape,
its the bottom one thats knackered.

So looks like body can go on then, and fit new lower bushes when I get them .
I,ve ordered them, so we will see how that goes.
But I,ll pop the body down and in place, and wont tighten up at the moment.

Whats the correct Dinitrol product for cavity protection.

The list of Dinitrol products, as well as other products is endless.
In my day Waxoyl was the norm, so whats the new norm.

Postal service here is akin to the pony express of the wild west. Just to give you
an example of a typical expediant courier delivery from uk.

Recent uk purchase with courier delivery from UK to their local hub here
25 miles up the road....1 day....Brilliant

Delivery from said hub to me....4 days and counting.....still dont have it.

And its not a customs clearing issue......its a fek the customer issue....we will deliver it when we feel like it.

And dont get me started on all the hours I spent listening to " Hello I,m your bot called Barry"

They are wonderful, and they do a Desperately Poor Delivery
if you get my drift.

The Uk end was flawless, and I cant fault that.

Still tweaking the floor to body, should be done tomorrow. All went surprisingly well
considering there were a lot of bodywork repairs mainly by eye as there were no places to
transfer datums from one side to the other, as both sides of a particular area were shot :D

Trickiest part where some rubber had to be reamed, as cutting was tricky when it was in. So
|I made a cutting tool by sharpening the internal end of an appropriate fitting socket, and
stuck it in the cordless, cleaned up the rubber nicely.

Front 4 longer bolts I though would be awkward, as they normally are, went in perfectly.
I surprised my self.

So its all going great, I thought it would be harder. And all the rear body support arches for the bushes
that were basically both fabbed from scratch, were snug and perfect. Another surprise.

And both front tank rails that take the mounting bush bolts were spot on too. I had to nip a 2 mm wide by
10mm long corner of the tank support rail bottom corner, that was just touching the beam upright.

I,ll post a pic when I get done.

But all went great, and its good to see it together again, I can see light at the end of the tunnel,
and its not someone with a flashlamp bringing me more work :D

Dinitrol cavity protection for old metal, is ML. You can use 3125 but that's more for fresh metal I think...I tend to use ML as it works to stop any existing corrosion it contacts.

New bushes arrived today.

Not too bad to fit both upper and lower front bushes. Of
course had great access from over head with the tank out, and the car up
off the deck on 4 no 6 ton high axle stands.

So I finally have a body and chassis married back together, at long last.
So i can crack on now at a bit better speed, finally.

I can almost hear it starting already :D

and those sprintstars that coolair have will have to be a definite
addition after chrimbo
