The boot on my fast back has always required a good tug on the door pillar lever to get it open since it was new but recently it is becoming very hard to open and I am concerned that one day it will not be possible to open it. I presume that in 48 years of use the cable has stretched a bit.
My questions are:
Can the cable be adjusted and if so at which end and how?
If the cable breaks is it possible to open the boot some other way?
Car currently in garage with boot open awaiting adjustment.
Thanks

Re: Fastback boot lock
If its just stretch / slip in the cable you can adjust it on the back of the latch mounted to the rear panel and if I remember there is a hole in the latch for the purpose.
Because the latch actually opens when the cable brakes, it controls the latch in its open and closed positions.
To adjust hold the latch end of the cable, loosen the clamp screw, then advance the latch mechanism slightly away from the end of the cable you are holding and retighten. Obviously too much and will then become difficult to lock.
You could remove the latch pin from the boot lid to test its all working properly before you commit, but make sure it goes back on centred to the latch as it will get stuck good and proper (believe me!)

Re: Fastback boot lock
Sorted
Even easier than I thought, the bolts on the lock mechanism were loose, just had to reposition the lock, tighten the bolts and apply a little grease.
Works a treat now!
