distributor return spring
This is my distributor, the picture isnt the same model, but im wondering if mine should have the second spring??? does it matter? does anyone know??

and have i put the earth in the right place- attached to the condensor screw?

As long as yours is operating and returning, i wouldn't worry about it. I expect it will have been a bit of built in redundancy. Or a means of altering the advance curve by requiring more vacuum before the advance started to increase.

cool! it is working quite well.
Have i put the earth pigtail in the right place??
Im checking cuz ive got no spark unless i open the points with a plastic knife- then i get one at the points and one at the ht lead!!

I cant see in the photo as it quite dark. But the wire from the points should connect to the grommet on the condenser which pushes through the hole on the side or bottom of the distributor. You will only get a spark when the points open. Thats how its designed to work, the points will open 4 time per revolution, once for each of your 4 cylinders

its a separate copper pigtail thats an earth. nothing to do with the points.

The copper tail normally goes to the moving plate
