Five stud drum in place of 4 stud rear brake drum
Five stud drum in place of 4 stud rear brake drum
Hello, does anyone know if the four stud rear Variant drum and hub can be replaced by an earlier 5 stud drum? I am assuming that as the backing plates, shoes etc are the same it should work if a spacer is added after the bearing seal cover? Any advice welcomed. Many thanks, Tony

I believe there is a thick washer that you can use like you say behind the bearing seal but I don’t know if it’s for the other way round
5 stud to 4
I am interested in this if you are doing it also I want wide 5 not small 4
I don’t know if I’ve helped but have a look on VW heritage or eBay, might be something easy to find
Cheers

It may be possible to work out from the parts book, as Australia and South African Type 3s in 1966 still had the wide 5 wheels - not sure how long that went for.
