Big oil leak

Post by Aaronslimvw » 23rd May 2019 - 10:52pm

Hey, my late fastback has developed a big oil leak. It looked like it was from the oil cooler. But on further inspection the oil was spraying up through the fan shroud and under the alternator and under the tins towards the oil cooler (thus making me think it was the oil cooler leaking).
Oil absolutely everywhere, have ran the car without the tins onto make sure. Anyone else experienced this??

Cheers

Is it coming out from the crank pulley?
Are you running the stock air filters and breathers?

Stock air filter yes, breather box was ruined so just had a pipe going from one head to the other, without the breather box in the middle

Have you checked the pushrod tubes? Could be as simple as a rusty tube or failed seal.

So what's in place of the breather box then? Is the tower just gaping?

Tubes look ok, breather is now just a pipe from one head to another.. but will change this so they go into the air box as they should

That should cure it, you need the crank case connected to the intake as its the vacuum from the intake that stops the case from over pressuring
