Indicator flashing
Indicator flashing
As I've not seen another Type 3 to compare, I don't know what the "norm" is, but when I select an indicator (Either side) both the left and right green lights in the instrument cluster illuminate and flash (Like they would do with hazards).
Now that I've been out in it more I've thought a bit more about it, I suspect this isn't right.
Can some one please clarify . I assume it's a bad earth in the instrument cluster, rather than a wiring problem elsewhere.
many thanks.

Re: Indicator flashing
No, that's how they work, both dash lights flash at the same time.
Re: Indicator flashing

Re: Indicator flashing
Don't worry, lots of people think this. The indicators do the same in buses as well.
Re: Indicator flashing
Thing is it's taken me 3 years to really think about it
I do still have a problem i think with the instrument cluster, when the ignition is off and the hazards are put on the fuel gauge swings with the same frequency as the hazards .
So I guess there is an earth fault still (and probably why I thought the indicators were iffy).

Re: Indicator flashing
It is how it is, but im in the middle of a modd to make left signal left and right singal right. It adds some addition connectors and wiring. Which is why I suspect VW didnt do this originally. Probably would have added a Deutsche Mark to the cost of each car.

Re: Indicator flashing
It's an interesting little technical challenge, but I have always taken the view that I already know what direction I have moved the stalk in.
I similarly don't get the need for "comfort indicators" that are fitted to modern VW's. I had a hire Polo a couple of years ago and they drove me mad for not switching off when I want them to, sometimes having the opposite indicator put on which of course then insisted in flashing 3 times. Yet I see some people wanting to fit them to their T25's

You can take the wiring off the block mounted on the top of the steering column.broady_6 wrote: ↑16th November 2019 - 9:25pmIt is how it is, but im in the middle of a modd to make left signal left and right singal right. Re: Indicator flashing
Very logical, but many years ago I bought a Beetle (for spares, but it still had a month or so's MoT) which had had indicator switches fitted on the dash because the column stalk had broken. I soon found that one switch worked the front right and rear left indicators, and the other did the front left and rear right. A quick swop of wires at the fusebox cured that one!937carrera wrote: ↑17th November 2019 - 9:04amI have always taken the view that I already know what direction I have moved the stalk in.
