the 1600 in my fastback is gettin a little tired (still pulls well but getting a bit loose in the big ends/mains).
Question: Im looking to up the go factor a bit & wonder if its better to rebuild the 1600cc & port/polish the heads & put on a better induction setup (it already has a merged header & Mondo).
OR: will a 2.0 early transporter lump fit, thus giving 70bhp straight from the box & a fair bit more torque?
Is the transporter lump an easy swap?
Advice/opinions please.
ENGINE SWAP OR REBUILD?

If at 1st you dont succeed...........it probably wasnt worth it, just say f*ck it & go get a beer!
true..... but wouldnt just a bolt in swap for the 2 litre be a couple of weekends worth of work, cheaper, torquier & with the option to do all the above mods to kick it up towards the 100bhp mark?nidge wrote:you should be able to get 70bhp from your engine. A set of 1641cc barrels & pistons , 110 cam , 1.25 rockers , some porting , a pair of del 36's and bolt your merged header back on

It will fit with a few modifications like engine bar and air flow to the engine system. We have fitted a 1700FI lump to a type 3 and kept it injection runs very well. Just make sure you get an early 2ltre not the later one as the alternator gives problems in fitting due to its location. CJ engine code.
