BUMPER REINFORCEMENT

Post by type3willy » 2nd November 2007 - 5:09pm

Hi Type 3 friends.

I´m looking for some sites with a detail (pictures, drawings or schemes)information of the late type 3 front bumper, and mainly of the reinforcement.

Thanks.

The big round tube?

I think yours for '73 doesn't have the front horizontal panel - just the tube bit.

It doesn't quite reach the front axle - unless you're in a frontal collision. - and attaches to the underside of the bumper with small brackets.

It would be a lot of effort to make one, I'd have thought, and you still need the tube covers to seal the spare wheel well. There must be a few around for not much money, but heavy to send to Spain.

Thanks for your response. Yes, the reinforcement of my front bumper is only the tube, without front horizontal panel. The tube has two little brackets for attached it to the bumper, but the bumper hasn´t the holes for this. Do you think, may I make the holes to install the reinforcement?.

Thanks again.

No problem drilling the bumper. Check it's not upside-down (should be other clues to that, particularly if it's a '72/73 with angled bumper ends!). Sometimes the chrome on the bottom is better - others it's worse.

Protect the edges of the holes with a bit of paint and/or wax.
