Replacing straight axle gearbox - how to raise spring plates

Post by SB Jim » 3rd March 2010 - 2:27pm

Hi

I'm replacing a straight axle gearbox into my 68 squareback, how do I lift the spring plates to locate the axle tubes (or do I need to?). The gearbox is virtually in with the tubes fitted. I guess I should have held the spring plates in place when I removed the old box

Any help appreciated

Cheers
Jim

Put a chain or strap over the top of the upper shock mounting & loop it down onto the floor.put your trolley jack on top of the loop & jack up against the springplate
