rear brakes??

hi wot different brake wheel cylinders have people used in there rear drums?? or do u have to use the excact ones??
i have a late variant 73 :). any help apreciated cheers stu

Easily available new from GSFcarparts.com eg. and not that expensive. £12.50

You do need the proper ones. Cylinder size, position of slot, width apart etc. Brakes are not an area for compromise.

i bought very similar from there but they are slightly smaller in width?? and think they are listed for a t25 van ?? they dont sell variant ones??

Looking up VW Aircooled, Type 3, Brake (Hydraulics) gives their GSF part number as 654VG0200. The Variant ones are listed separately from Notch and Fastback, but only because they changed to that size from '66 while the Notch and Fastback changed from '65.

It's the same as the one they quote for the T4A >7/74 according to GSF.

I can't believe the bore is smaller, as that would affect the braking force, or the offset from the backing plate as that would affect the shoe position. Maybe the sidewalls are thinner?
