Right,
I'm stripping down my engine, and the questions / problems are already starting ...
1) Thermostat bellows - same as T1? No part number on mine, just "VW 65*-70*C 2/3". Mine have popped so need replacements.
2) Fan - its riveted to its hub. Can they be saved? Mine has slight play, but is bound to shake to bits when I don't want it to.
3) Engine is *really* oily on the TOP of the case near the flywheel, and underneath the FI plenum chamber thingy. The 4 hoses joining it to the manifolds are very oily too - I can slide them back easily. Maybe related - the breather pedestal thingy is full of black gunge - a cm thick in places. Air can pass through, but its not right.
Related to (3) : there was a leak from the oil cooler seals but I fixed that and cleaned the engine up a bit, so this is a different leak.
