For those of you who heard my Variant screaming its head off with grossly fast 'idle' at Stanford Hall, as suspected it wasn't heating up one of the chokes, so the fast idle was operating whenever there wasn't enough airflow to override it. No problem for driving at cruising speeds, but an embarrassment when trying to go slowly, such as the queue on entry or leaving!
I made up a new choke and fuel cut-off loom today, as the original looked pretty manky at the crimped terminals, and soldered the joints to make doubly sure. What a joy now, with the usual nice even tick-over again. These cars give us such simple pleasures!
