FITTING AN AUTO BOX

can an auto box and flywheel be fitted to an engine that has had a manual gearbox fitted????

is there any/much modification required????

any help would be appreciated

fitting it to a 1300 air cooled beetle engine

its from a type 3/4 variant, will it fit????

See "Auto and Manual cars - any engine differences?" in the Virtual Clubhouse section. All the questions were answered there when I asked the same. However I was asking about a Type 3 engine if you are using a Type 1 (ie Beetle engine) their would be additional problems as the Oil filler is in a different place on a Beetle engine

'Beetle' engines in Type 3s

Normally Beetle engines have the fan upright, and cannot be fitted in a Type 3 or Type 4 even if you don't mind the fan housing sticking through the floor, due to severe overheating through drawing in pre-heated air to the cooling fan.

The Beetle (Type 1) engine is not all that different from the Type 3 - a 1300 presumably has different bore and stroke though. Are you sure it's 1300cc? Is there an engine number on it?
