early/late frame head and beam

Post by newquaydodger » 14th June 2011 - 9:41am

Hi guys. Having bent the frame head on my 66 square at the weekend on some raised ironworks, driving through an area that is been resurfaced. I now need to some major surgery on my ride. So can any one tell me if there is a difference between early and late frame heads on type 3s also is there any difference in the front beams ie are the actual beams interchangerble.
Thanks

They are the same (or at least interchangeable).

hi. i fitted a complete beam assembly to my early car. i've looked long and hard at both early and late setups and the only difference between the two were:
different front hubs/discs and calipars and possibly bearings. calipars are as early type4 car
the large mounting rubbers that wrap round the beam are offset on the late car as opposed to being uniform on early cars.
this gives a better caster angle and enables the steering to self centre a lot better than on early models.
appart from that i could see no other difference. if ive missed something i'll say my sorries now! but i think didn't!
