looks like it could be coming from the fuel pump gasket or the breather box base gasket

I think when i replaced the fuel pump i didnt have a gasket that sits between the
pump base and the engine.... guess i need one...
will a cereal box cut to size do the job?

I had the same looking leak and it was the complete lack of a gasket on the breather/filler box - made a new one out of cork and hey presto - cured!
Now just leaks out of push rod tube seals instead (obviously!!!)

Impressive - Yuri Geller could do that well!

There are different lengths of push-rod for Beetle pumps, depending on whether they are used for a Beetle with dynamo or alternator. Could be that's what happened.

Otherwise, the plastic guide sleeve can cause the rod to jam when it gets old and swells a bit with oil. I'd be surprised if that had caused it, but I guess it's possible.
Dave.
