As the subject says really - if later ones are IRS, what year did they change?
Only asking as i think my gearbox is on its way out - lots of whining - sounds like its in reverse when going forwards, etc. I`ve changed the transmission oil and added an additive but with no real luck.
Also, will a late transmission fit an early type 3? mine is a 1964 1500s running a stock engine.
by the way, if anyone is going to bristol volksfest on sunday and has a spare transmission in good condition for sale, let me know.
edit: also just thought - what about flywheels and clutch? mine is 6volt at the moment - will my 6 volt flywheel and clutch fit a later transmission?
thanks ,
mike

You'd be looking for 67 or earlier to get a swing axle box, but 66/67 will have 4 stud drums. Flywheels have a different number of teeth, but are all the same size from 63 on, so you shouldn't have any clearance problems.

Yes of course, but if you didn't want to, you'd need the earlier one.
I didn't mean to confuse.

Actually... you wouldn't need to change the axles, just the brakes.

thats interesting - i didn`t realise that i could swap all the brakes over - i.e backing plates, drums , shoes etc over.
thanks for info - i`ll keep a lookout for a type 3 swing axle box,
cheers,
mike
