porsche wheels

Post by rustydubs » 15th November 2012 - 8:35pm

Wanting to run a set of Porsche wheels on my 72 square, can I buy discs with the Porsche stud pattern or do I have to get a set drilled. Same for the rear drums?

If its a later 72 with Type 4 calipers then you'll need the front discs drilling, or swap the spindles and calipers for earlier ones - then you can buy the discs off the shelf (Machine 7 sell them). The rears you'll need to drill anyway - both the hubs and the drums themselves.

Also make sure you fit "press in" studs to all the new holes rather than drill and tap for bolts or threaded studs. The material thickness where the new holes will be is not thick enough to support a thread.

Measure the distance between the Caliper mounting bolts..if its 75mm or thereabouts, you've got the biggies. If less, you've got the earlier ones

I've just measured between the calipers bolts, are you saying centre to centre or actually between the bolts? Mine seem to measure about 76mm centre to centre, but obviously less inbertween. So I'm not sure!

Typical, so more work if I want the wheels to fit.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rarity-Origin ... 19d6d204ac

These look nice... however they seem pricey to me

Stick these on as well & thats not much change from £1000

The problem with those is they're T1 offset so they'll go on but poss stick out a bit. Reason people go for Porsche wheels is the offset is very similar to T3 so sit well in the arches- and looking gorgeous too 8)

too expensive for me. gonna stick to some nice 4 studs now. just missed out on some gas burners in 4 stud. what is the max offset i can get away with for a 5.5 wheel? i have 2 sets of rare mag industries wheels, different styles, but one has quite a low offset so i dont think i can get away with those.
