Type 4 CV boots

Post by Paul L » 28th January 2013 - 7:52pm

Hi all

are Type 4 CV boots the same as type 3 or Beetle? I'm hoping so!

No - the CV joints are bigger, like the Type 2, but I'm not sure whether the Type 2 boot is exactly correct, as the parts book has 3 versions depending on chassis number. You may need to check the drive shaft diameter matches. Someone here will be able to set you straight on that.

If it helps, my 924 had Type 4 CV's and I just used regular Type 2 boots from GSF to replace them.

I'd not heard of any problem before. The Type 4 parts book illustration shows a longer boot than I recall my Type 2 having, but there can't be much axle travel on a Type 4 at the rear.

Thanks chaps, most helpful. I'll try some Type 2 boots.
