This shows what you should have - O-ring for the top. Plastic sleeve with embedded metal flange for the lower.

I don't know. It's listed as a Type 3 part. 311 405 129A. It's basically a thick O-ring that fits on the torsion arm. I don't know if the Beetle has them. I might have one to measure. They're probably about 4-5mm thick, from memory. Maybe someone has one handy to measure.

http://www.type34.com/blogs/latest-blog-posts shows sme o-rings to give you an idea.

I've just noticed the parts book lists the thrust ring for the upper torsion arm on a different page and diagram - I've no idea why they did that. The upper needle bearing is 44mm diameter, so you're probably looking for an O-ring with internal diameter 44mm and thickness around 4mm or so.

bottoms are same as type 1 beetle (seals and needle bearings)

tops are type 3 specific, consist of a metal/plastic bush you have to knock in, also there is a rubber 'o' ring. top needle bearings are type 3 specific.

from experience, the top bush and needle bearings are like rocking horse doo doo to get hold of, rubber 'o' ring, you could prob get a generic one to fit.

I have NOS top (thrust) bushes if you need them.
Agreed, the top "o ring" type seal just seems to float, so something generic should work.
In any case, I have a NOS pair at home I can measure.
Unless they are rusty or damaged the needle bearings are not usually a problem.
The bearing surface on the trailing arm seems to be what wears.

Mine are missing and it appears the beam is greased, the inner bearings are in good shape but wont stay that way unless I can keep said grease in the beam, so I assume its just the seals I need

The upper seals are available from ISP west, so its worth ringing round Karmann connection & coolair to ask which of them is closest to placing an order. Heritage might be worth a shot too,but I understand they wait 'til they've got £500 worth of stuff to order, whereas kk & coolair just order on a regular basis.( if those fail, gimme a yell,as theres a Bristolian vw fan in the states at the mo & i'm sure he'd whack a pair in the post)
Lower seals are available from Heritage
I had hoped to find my seals to give you a photo & dims, but theyre hiding at this precise moment!
