Hi all simple question is the wing beading the same as a beetle ?

Simple answer... No.


Beetle beading is the same profile throughout its length, where the Type 3 stuff changes profile.
Fastback / Squareback beading is also different to Notchback.

So my next question is where sells the front wing beading

ISP sell it New, but only in black
otherwise, the big names in Europe have stashes, depending on colour- try Bert3 or Mario Stenhauser (T3HQ)

If You've got your old beading, it might soften up in Hot Water

Late and early fronts are different.
The ISP kits may somehow do both (worth checking if you're thinking of ordering), but NOS pieces won't so make sure you're getting the right pieces.
311 821 705B & 706B are the late part numbers (the 'B' being the important bit)

That should work, and the bit at the top rear of the front wing has the same depth flange, but the original has a 25mm ribbed flange elsewhere.

The front wing has a short tength of (16mm flange) T-section, then a length of round section where the bonnet is,
then T-section again. It depends on whether the adjacent panels are flat or meet at a right angle.

The rear wing for Fasty and Variant is T-beading throughout, with the (25mm) flange cut to allow it to be mitred at the bend to run down the piller.

The Notch rear does more like the front wing, with a round beading where it drops down into the boot-lid area.

The rear between wing and rear panel is a separate piece with a wider T-section. I don't know where that is available from.

The various parts are joined by plastic welding.

That’s the right part no. A mate bought a set of T3 wing beading from a well known aircooled vw supplier. We compared it to the woolies trim and it was identical but cost him a lot more than the woolies trim.

The previous post totally sums it up, but just to say what I did:
Separate small section of trim at the bottom, back of the rear wings behind the back bumper – this piece uses thicker beading. I just reused my old trim here as it was still ok. If you cant do this you may have to use the woollies trim instead.
Original has no t-piece only when between front wing inside the boot. But I just continued to run the t section top round in the gap (like the rest of the front beading) anyway and it seals it well and looks fine.

The rear panel beading often seems OK. Sometimes the top cm where it curves over the body shape breaks off.

The front by the luggage compartment is hardly visible hidden by the bonnet anyway.

Incidentally, the rear wing beading profile isn't actually a 'T' - it's got a shorter top next to the body. However, apart from some carefully stored lengths of original unused beading, it simply isn't available even in black or white. No-one can afford to be that picky these days!
