Hi Guys,
Today we tried to fire up the engine that I was given with the car. There was some success but it wouldnt fire fully.
The carbs are definately suspect.
I take it getting hold of new Solex 32 pdsit carbs is not easy. Would a rebuild be worthwhile or can I put other carbs onto the same manifold and still fit under the engine lid.
I also need to get one linkage arm. Steve has advised they can be made which I think is a good option. however if anyone knows of a stockist please point me in the right direction.

I had problems getting my newly acquired 412 to start and run after being laid up for a long time.
To get the car started I simply started to directly feed the carbs with fuel down the intakes. That assured enough fuel to fire. it was then a matter of balancing / blipping the throttle to keep it running. I had issues with the 90 degree bends on the balance pipes and general carb / ignition adjustment. I was going to do a carb rebuild but as the car came with a spare set so I threw those on and life was much better.
32 PDSIT carbs are maybe easier to get hold of than you think. Certainly easier than 36-40 PDSIT's
I now have a set of carbs that I can rebuild at leisure

Or there's a firm called Gasure.co.uk who will do a similar job, but will only work on them if you take the car to them

Hi guys, I installed on EC 1,8l injection engine, 36-40 PDSIT carbs. Is there any "standard" adjustment for this cabrs ?
For expamle, Solex 32 PICT3 standard adjustment for fuel ratio is 2,5 turns, tec...
On 36-40 we have only 2 screws, one is for air mixture and second is for free-running mixture.

One adjustment does the mixture and the other the idle speed. Just work out which does which. Get it to run, then adjust the mixture on one making it weaker (screw in?) and it will run faster until it starts running slower, then go back slightly richer. Do the same on the other carb. Check the first one again. and readjust if needed. Then adjust the idle speed on each carb in turn. That should give you a reasonable result.
Ideally a carb balancer is used, but it is possible this way.
