About an year ago I bought my 412 with description 'inspected and probably will take you home' ( 300 miles).
Well, I fetched it in June, drove it home and it has had basically no major problems this summer, I'm quite happy with that.
Haven't counted the kilometers, but few thousands isn't far.
Biggest non-major items have been very loose idler arm bushing and broken alternator belt and that's not much for a random car.
I asked around (here in Finland) and eventually found an AN-engine from an automatic(!) (no idea if sedan/wagon) and I think I'll buy it, do a major overhaul to it and do the engine swap at some point in spring. Almost correct engine anyway to this car and I already have many sedan-spesific parts.
Some carpets and heating and many other pieces are still missing, but overall nothing too bad. Still not too pretty, though.
But next or following week to winter storage and then hibernation until May or June.
Link for more pics, mostly the same as earlier:

Hi, did you post a note on the forum showing new stainless steel exhausts for eberspacher heaters.

No, I didn't.
But while I'm here I'll tell you that 412 is now in winter storage in a semi-heated garage (electric heater is on but it's only about 500 watts, won't be able to keep it warm if there's -20C below. But it keeps the garage dry and that's the point).
Only about 40 miles away, not too far.
New battery seems to be on the list to next summer and we'll see what happens with the engine. (Planned swap to AN-engine but I haven't even seen it yet.)

Re: Still going strong and correct engine also found
New old engine hauled to home and it looks quite horrible but it has at least correct carburetors for an AN-engine. This is good as those aren't easy to find. All the rubber parts are beyond salvable but those should be generic type4 parts.
Also some pics: http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/412/mosa/
I started from carburetors as those were very dirty, inside and out.
The one in pictures are first washed, then kept in oxalic acid for a while and then in citric acid to remove some of the rust and finally cleaned in ultrasound washer.
I'm still not happy with results, surface colour is very uneven and I may have those soda blasted.
Ruddies in Berlin has an repair set for this model (probably many others too):

Re: Still going strong and correct engine also found
Not much progress in winter as I didn't find a garage for the job, but now it's summer again and we can do stuff outside (actually in trunk, as you can see), nice. Currently +12C (53F), that's not much, but we had two weeks about +23C (73F), that was nice.
Disassembly has progressed almost to the block, one piston is stuck and one bolt didn't want to open, but nothing major so far. Everything is just rusty and dusty.

I also noticed that finding domed 83mm pistons seems impossible, only dished pistons (for a bus) are available and those lower the compression rate quite a lot.

Re: Still going strong and correct engine also found
I'm still looking for 93mm domed pistons, but those seem to be totally N/A everywhere, so I may have to settle with 96mm flat top piston set from AA.
Anyway, some progress: I had engine tinware sandblasted and painted and the difference is well worth the money:

Also fan box was sandblasted and painted, not too bad either:

Along these some smaller items were sandblasted and painted, but whole project is kind of stuck to the piston problem.
