Completely dependent on condition really, a rough one is probably worth in the region of £500, whereas a very good condition fully road worthy example worth around £2000 to £3000.

Of course one of the in-house experts may be along to put me right!

That sounds about right. Might get a lot more for a concours condition, but there aren't many of those around.

There's a guy who just joined who is looking for a gold Type 4 - fancied one for a long time.

He's put a want ad in, I think. Could be a bit awkward as he is in Africa, and would need it shipped to Mombassa. That might set alarm bells ringing for you, though!

Are you in Cornwall?
Dave.

I have been scouring the forum and internet trying to find out where all the remaining six (or maybe only 5 according to the Q3 2014 data) 412 saloons in the UK are.

This one is coming up as one of the two that are currently taxed - is the current owner on here or has it disappeared from this site. Any clues ?

I think I have identified all the currently SORN'd cars too

That is my old car. Sorry, it's not a special edition, it's a perfectly standard spec Fastback saloon ... at least it was when I had it from 2000 to 2006, it's been worked on since! It was car of the month in VolksWorld for June 2008.

You need to put that on Facebook, I brought mine off here last year, 412LE,
Got it on the road now,
There was a 412 LE on gid it 12k,
So the thing is how much will someone pay for it
I know how much wireless paid for his,
If I sold my beetle I'd have it :)

Just to be clear, as far as I know this car is NOT currently for sale. I simply resurrected a 6 year old thread in an attempt to find out who the current owner is and if they are on here. - I'm assuming jozzer123 went off to the land down under having sold the car on. It is currently taxed.

Unfortunately that seems to be what many in the VW scene consider "cool". I'm with you Judi in not liking the "look" and on some of them it must almost render the cars unusable

Maybe I'm just getting old...

Well done for finding that Judi, so I suppose that means that the current owner isn't on here.

I assume that when you say it's on air, the photo was taken with the air on its rests and the car does have some clearance when running. Like Shawn, my preference is for originality too so I'm not a fan of the latest mods either. More worryingly it looks like the old tin worm is present across the bottom of the doors and wheelarches which probably means the chassis is suffering too and is going to need some work doing soon to keep her on the road, before it goes too far. :(

On the other hand, it also means there might be a project available at some future point :) ...... budding 412 fastback owners better get on Facebook

It does have an active air system and I've seen a video on-line of it jumping around like a donkey on heat. Cars on the floor seems to be the current fad and it'll pass, but not before many cars will be ruined.

Oh gawd, a 412 with potentially rusty chassis / sills being bounced up and down on air suspension   I do hope the worst doesn't happen

It's not rocket science to compare the name of It's current Owner with the first post in this thread & His username on Here
I think we can safely say that Jozzer123 still owns the car!

On a serious note, it's still on the road, and being used,

He's put the car up for sale once and offered parts to break it before now on here, why not try and get in touch with him ?

He's on Facebook and I think he posts on the SWdubs website. Google is your friend

Yes. Suits to some cars but looks quite stupid on a 4-series.

But I've mixed feelings on this 'ruined' part .... AFAIK no major rework needs to be done for air suspension and therefore it's relatively easy to return to stock suspension and, as the rest of the car tends rust away, it's (hopefully) kept in good shape for next owners.

Air suspension and conversion isn't cheap so the owner isn't poor, just slightly tasteless. ;)

Not that I like that, but I like to think that it's still better than slowly rotting away on someone's yard: We've enough of those.

And of course the car rotting outside is not for sale as "I'm gonna restore it some day" ... and how often that day never comes? Very often.

Somewhat related rant: My uncle has a -65 Vauxhall Velox which suffered exactly this: It has been in a shed about 25 years and it is basically scrap metal now. But not for sale, I've asked many times. :( It was such a roomy car, easily fit 6 people in and a 3,3 liter straight six in it, nice sound too.
