Ice fishing holes?

Post by adi #2 » 18th October 2009 - 8:26pm

What exactly is the point of those holes in the front footwells of my 411?

They are big circular holes with covers glued in with seam-sealer. I know the usual joke is that they are for ice fishing (and i have seen this done in a ZAZ968 north of the circle a couple of times!) but what the hell are they ACTUALLY for???

For ice fishing, the dash would get in the way of the drill and make it inconvenient to drill through the ice, so i dont think its for that  Although, like a ZAZ968, there is a fuel powered heater, so good for ice fishing.

If you take away the carpet, noise insulation pads, floor paint, primer, and the tonnes and tonnes of seam sealer that VW put on the inside of the floors, the footwells have two circular holes, about 200mm in diameter, very similar to the holes for the fuel tank breather or the eber heater, only bigger. These have matching covers which are not welded or screwd in place but just kept in place by being glued in with seam sealer it seems.

At least thats how it is on my car.
