No more wet feet in the rain - hopefully!

Post by kps70 » 2nd May 2010 - 6:36pm

Hi all,
Just got in from repairing (or rather remaking) the metal box that houses the fan and plastic housing in my 1971 411 variant. The previous box was completely rotten - what a rain/leaves trap this is. I had about an inch of soil sitting on top of what was left of the metal box and every time it rained the carpet got wet. Hopefully this job will do the trick - plenty of seam sealant.....!

It worked! It's dry inside now when it's raining. Always a bonus....
The 411's MOT ran out whilst I was doing this so I've been underneath it inspecting/welding in preparation. So far, a couple of small patches - got carried away then and repainted the floor inside, added some spotlights and resprayed a sill as one repair was on this part of the body.
Now to inspect the rear end before the MOT. I guess then I'll find out whether the BMW front calipers are providing too much front braking bias.
This car was supposed to be my 'no work' car whilst I got on with the 412. I suppose I should have known better. Even VW's need TLC after 40 years!
Good job I'm a teacher with plenty of holidays ;-)
