New to Type 4 Q's
New to Type 4 Q's
Would someone tell me what this button does please? It's located under the steering column. I have no idea if it is supposed to be there even.
And what do I need to push or pull to open these side vents (assuming that's what they are!)
Thankyou for your time.

Re: New to Type 4 Q's
No idea on the button under the dash, looks like an after market thingy. Could it be an alarm of some sort? Is there any wires connected to it?
As for the vents they should open by just pushing the edge of the plastic. Hard to describe really but if you look closely at the picture you can just about make out a line that runs top to bottom of the disc. This is the pivot point so pushing just to the left of that line with your finger will/should just make the disc pivot on that line. The vent is then open and should blow some warm air onto the side window, assuming your heating all works.
If you make it to Action at the weekend feel free to find me near my 412 on the club lineup and I'll try and answer any further questions you have.
Any news on the clutch yet? Will you make it to Action in the 412?

Thanks for the info on the vents, I didn't want to go sticking my fingers in them incase I wasn't supposed to
Yes, there are 2 wires connected to the back of the button, it's a push one inside of the rubber casing.
As for Action, as long as the post brings me the master cyclinder for the clutch today or tomorrow Babs should make it to Action

Haven't got my finger stuck
The black button is the window washer button. I pressed it and water squirted out.
And Barb will be at Action

So it wasn't the 'ejector seat' button then
That makes 3 Type 4s then

Re: New to Type 4 Q's
well done hope you all had a good time at action.
Re: New to Type 4 Q's
I think I speak for the three of us Type 4 owners in saying that we did!
And it was good to meet up with some fellow Type 4 owners and I even bumped into Dave (the 411 guy from NZ) for a chat.

Shame - I missed that chat with another, rare, 411 owner. Was that the guy with the nice one for sale about a year or so ago?
Yes, we did enjoy Action. My son now knows what a Beetle is!!

Re: New to Type 4 Q's
There's a popular game in the USA called 'Punch Buggy' - guaranteed to annoy a kid's parents, but needs two kids to play it, and can be a bit dangerous in our small cars where there's not much space to punch anyone!
Dave.
Re: New to Type 4 Q's
My kids used to call it punch mini. They liked Bugs too much. I stopped it when I saw they had bruising on their arms that looked like social services might get called...............
Re: New to Type 4 Q's
My two younger ones don't need the excuse of a game to punch each other!

Re: New to Type 4 Q's
I found with the smooth vinyl seats I could sort them out with a quick flick of the steering wheel. Mind you that was in the days before seat belts being fitted in the rear of the car and the requirements of a booster seat. Roundabouts were really exciting for them back then especially when they had a friend in the back and found that squashing was an option. They would be laughing their heads off trying to stay seated in one spot.
Re: New to Type 4 Q's
I remember carrying school kids in my '59 Beetle. That had no rear belts or latch on the front seats, so braking a bit hard would send a rear passenger sprawling onto the back of the front passenger seat, which then folded. How did anyone survive childhood back then? I guess some didn't.
Dave.

I can remember my dad taking corners hard deliberatly for that reason and it was loads of funJane Terry wrote:I found with the smooth vinyl seats I could sort them out with a quick flick of the steering wheel. My dad used to do the same...whatever happened to the good old days were every trip was an adventure of life or death!
