More eberspacher stuff
More eberspacher stuff
Would anyone who still has the 'spacher control box under their passenger seat be able to get a pic of it please? And what does it actually do as I'm going to see if there is a way round not having the exact one or at least knowing what one looks like when the inevitable having to buy one happens.......
Thanks in advance.

Re: Eberspacher picture request please
I'll have a look and try and get a pic in the next couple of days for you.
In the meantime I don't advice trying to run it without the relay under the seat due to the fact it is an important part of the safety of the system. You have three fuses that are disigned to blow if the system overheats due a failure of a component. There is also a trip switch located in the main relay that trips if something goes wrong.

Re: Eberspacher picture request please
Don't worry, I wasn't going to run it without. Also the fact I have no exhaust and have yet to even inspect it........... I kind of don't want to break the inspection hole seals. They're dotted out in the boot floor but have obviously never been opened before!
I had a feeling from reading up it was a safety feature, but have been wondering about making an electrical equivalent. I'm sure I know someone who is good at that sort of thing

Re: Eberspacher picture request please
I think on some cars, they were under the bonnet,on the inner wing
Re: Eberspacher picture request please
Hi there
The wiring you see there in the photo is under the back seat on a Variant ( passenger side U.K ) and in the engine bay on a Saloon...
The relay on the left ( silver one is for the rear screen demisiter ).That leaves two other fuses which both feed bits of the Eber. The fuse with green wires on one end is the fuel pump fuse, also called the "overheating" fuse since, if you overheat the Eber, the overheat switch will short out the fuel pump feed and blow the fuse. It's an 8A (white) fuse. The other is the Eber "main" fuse, it has red wires on both sides, and is a 16A (red) fuse.
I've been having problems with mine and the above is what i've read etc....
But !! if you get it to go properly its absolutely fantastic and transforms a winter ride in a 412 Variant !!!

Re: Eberspacher picture request please
Ahhh so not all of this is together under the same seat. That makes more sense. As far as I know(will check now I have a better idea) it's only the one from under the passenger seat I'm missing.
Re: Eberspacher picture request please
ok, I've been and cut and had a looksee.......
so I have the relays under the seat and all the fuses are good.
Look at these, untouched since it's been in existence by the looks of it!
so what is this little oblong oval one for?
And these are the wires which started the original Q that are loose under the passenger seat.
I assume this is the blower in the engine bay that pushes it all round when you are stopped? And how do I get that bit working/test it to see if it's working?
and while poking about and in the light of a gazillion n 1 Q's..... would I be right thinking there should be a grommet of some sort here to protect the wire?

Re: More eberspacher stuff
You should be able to test the motor easy enough by running power to it. If you have all the pipe work fitted underneath the car then you could wire that motor to come on without the eber via a simple rocker switch to blow some air through the heating system. Not sure how good it would be but could be worth a try.
AND the eber makes a world of difference in these cars.

Thankyou Ricky and Shawn. So many hours are going to be spent with me looking at it all drinking tea working this out I can see!
Shawn, if you could get a pic of under the passenger seat would be great

The front passenger seat? Referring to those 'loose wires' you have? If so I think you'll find they were for the VW diagnostic plug in doo da!

Re: More eberspacher stuff
Really? For some reason I had it in my head that there was supposed to be..........ahhh.......I read the control box for the spacher was under the seat, saw wires, 2+2=5 That'll teach me to scan read! Ok ..........*whistles*
Plus side, it looks like I have everything there then except the exhaust, and fuel lines. Should *theoretically* be able to get the spacher working then!

Re: More eberspacher stuff
Let me know when you do - I have just bought 1.5m of 38mm flexible exhaust from ebay to try to get mine working again. Won't be this winter though - too bloody cold to go & suss it out!

Re: More eberspacher stuff
Well, I figure the sensible way is to see if the heater blower in the engine compartment works. Get that connected. Test as many components as are accessible. Get a new fuel line on, and some flexihose for an exhaust and see if it starts with a fire extinguisher ready.....no doubt it won't be that seemples!
Re: More eberspacher stuff
...its worth the work...once you get it working you can toast bread by your feet as you drive ( not recommended ! )
all i have to do now is get mine to not blow a fuse at idle lol...

Re: More eberspacher stuff
Kembiff, do you have a link for the flexi exhaust?
Re: More eberspacher stuff
I got mine as an off-cut that someone was selling on but there seem to be a few from actual shops on there.
Heres the one I got (hope it fits - its still in the packaging right now):

I wondered about 40mm and packing the end out before I came across this one.
