Get a new one!
Volksfrmers have some, not sure what a courier would be like for transporting one though.
How does it work claiming for one under windscreen cover on car insurance if new ones aren't available? Do they cover the expense in sourcing, transporting replacements?

Re: windsreen
I wonder if they'd make a heated front window up for a 412..........

Re: windsreen
We can offer 3 solutions to the rear screen Shawn!
1 Buy the one in the parts stash
2 Ask & we'll point you at someone who's got a lot of stick on kits
3 Small child with a demister pad sat in the back

Re: windsreen
It's not something I've tried yet but I think a small fan blowing air over the rear screen would get the inside air going past it and get rid of condensation. It's probably easier on a saloon or Fastback with its luggage shelf than an estate. I did find the 12V computer fan I was going to try when sorting through a bit of the garage the other day. It does depend on having heat in the car though.
OTOH Peter's ideas are more practical, assuming the HRW is functional. Removal or installation can break the fine elements if the glass is mishandled, and if it's been removed from a car that has sat for a time with condensation on the element, it may not have a working element due to corrosion.
To check the HRW, test with a resistance meter (Ohms) and see if it's less than about 10 Ohms. 5 Ohms or less is more like the original, and produces about 30W.

I like Peter's idea of 'a small child with a demister pad' but I don't think the police will!
As for my rear window it does have power reaching it, at least I can get close to 12v on the wires. How do I test the resistance? I have a meter but the only setting I have used is the volts one...must confess to not knowing how to use the other settings.
I think trying to find one that works would prove to be difficult and would also require the rubber being replaced at the same time. A rubber could be hard to find, although I do know the Dutch club have a contact for new ones (thanks Kieron).
Denise's bug has a 12v fan heater thingy fitted on the rear parcel shelf that clears the rear window.

Re: windsreen
now i wish i had been more careful with the spare one i had in the garage! I had an unpleasant accident while moving thing's about and it became a pile of broken glass on the floor!.... Sad!!! I had come across it at a bug jam in the early 90s. at the end of the show i returned to my type 4 To find a screen had been left with a note attached saying ....all your Christmases and birthdays have come at once. If I still had it I'd of passed it on what a bugger!!!!
its a way of life
